Three and a Half to Six Year Old Program

Our 3 1/2 - 6 year old environment consists of one or two preschool years and a Kindergarten year, depending on when they enter from our 2 - 4 year old program.

Most of our children at this location have come from our younger programs so they will be building on their previous Montessori experiences. We do accept new students in at this level based on availability

The 3 1/2 to 6 year olds attend our 209 Wyoming Ave. house, often referred to as "209". Each room in the home focuses on a different area of the classroom. Children during the day flow through the rooms, working with the teacher in that space to challenge themselves while exploring materials.

The different areas include: Language/Computer lab, Science/Geography, Math/Math concepts, Art/Sensorial/Practical Life and Writing. Beyond the classroom experience, beautiful outdoor gardens and play area are available to the children throughout the day. Sign-language and Spanish are introduced and used daily.

Afternoon specials include: Webby Dance, Art Explorers, Cooking, and Music/Movement. School House symphony visits the school three times during the year to discuss music and instruments with the children.

Pre-K's take four field trips while Kindergartners take nine fieldtrips during the year. These fieldtrips build on the curriculum areas being presented at the time. Theme units are changed out every four to six weeks, offering children new vocabulary enrichment.

Schedule of the Day:

7:00-9:00 Children arrive, move freely throughout the rooms, breakfast is available until 8:30, outside is open at 8:00

9:00-9:15 Morning Meeting in homeroom: Calendar & Weather, Grace & Courtesy lessons, Character Education.

9:15-10:30 Small group Presentation and work period

10:30 2nd Meeting in homeroom: Sharing Bag, Sign-Language and songs, Stories, Phonemic games, crafts, etc.-based on the homeroom teacher.

10:45 Outside is open

11:00-12:30 Outside, lunch, inside rooms-all options

12:30-1:30 Nap for Pre-k's, Enrichment for K's

1:30-2:30 Outside, inside rooms, Nap-all options

2:30- 4:00 Small group presentation and work period

4:00-5:30 Afternoon Specials, outside, inside rooms all open
